Early Afternoon Forecast Thoughts

A few quick notes concerning our weather in coming days…

*Everything is still right on target for a major Arctic shot this week. The coldest air will arrive Thursday and Friday; from the forecast low level thickness values, I figure the high Thursday will be close to 32, with a low Friday morning in the 10 to 15 degree range. Some of the colder spots across North Alabama should reach the single digits easily. The GFS MOS is not useful; it is having a very hard time handling the cold air. Today is a great example; guidance suggested a high around 50 today, but most spots are in the 30s at early afternoon.

*Looks like the cold air will blow in with only limited moisture, and nothing beyond a few snow flurries late this week.

*The 12Z GFS continues the idea of some risk of wintry precipitation around Sunday, January 18, but for now that is voodoo and not a forecast.

*I cautioned you last week about the trolls, haters, and know-it-alls; they flood the blog during times like these. They don’t bother us at all unless they get into personal attacks or use profanity. Everything we write here is preserved, and you can go back at any point during the last several weeks to see what we have been saying about the coming cold wave, and we welcome everyone to do just that.

*Everyone needs to make plans now for some of the coldest weather we have seen in several years.

I will have my next full discussion and a new Weather Xtreme video by 7:00 a.m. tomorrow… more updates later today and tonight as needed…
