Last Warm Day for Awhile; Showers Increase Ahead of Front Through This Evening

| October 15, 2017 @ 2:03 pm

Low clouds that were across much of the area this morning faded fast, allowing a good deal of sunshine to break out. In response, temperatures have warmed quickly into the lower 80s.

A few showers have been appearing across North Central Alabama, from Cullman and Blount counties into Marshall, Etowah, DeKalb and Cherokee Counties. These showers will remain scattered across the area through the late afternoon.

Our cold front is now reaching Memphis. It should reach the I-59 Corridor late this evening. A couple of waves of showers with isolated thunder will roll across the area this evening. Rainfall amounts will be generally light, less than one-quarter of an inch. Official forecasts call for more. We can only hope, but I doubt it happens.

Winds will become gusty tonight ahead of the front and after diminishing a bit late tonight, they will become really gusty tomorrow. Most folks will be in the lower 50s by morning and highs tomorrow won’t reach 70F in most North Central Alabama locations despite a quickly clearing sky.

This work week will feature the first real fall-like conditions. Highs will be in the upper 60s tomorrow with gusty winds as skies clear. But highs the remainder of the week will gradually warm from 71F Tuesday to 78F by the weekend. 50s for lows will be plentiful all week, with a good number of 40s early in the week. The coolest mornings will be Tuesday and Wednesday when most everyone will be in the 40s. Kids at the school bus stop will need their jackets for sure! It should be dry through next weekend.
