Big Warming Trend Ahead

An all new edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme video is available in the player below. You can subscribe to the Weather Xtreme video on iTunes by clicking here.

STORM ALERT 2009 TONIGHT IN TRUSSVILLE: We will be boarding AirLink 33/40 shortly for the short flight to Trussville… the doors at the Trussville Civic Center will open at 5:00; the show begins at 7:00. We hope to see you there… we always enjoy these pre-spring weather tours across the state.

WARMER DAYS AHEAD: Be sure and scroll down for a list of lows across Alabama this morning, as compiled by J.B… that is about as cold as it gets around here with no snow cover. And, tonight will be pretty cold, just not as cold as last night. Most places will drop into the 20s, but the colder valleys east of I-65 should reach the teens again.

We are still looking at a high close to 60 tomorrow, followed by highs between 65 and 70 over the weekend. The weather will stay dry, although moisture levels will begin to increase Sunday.

NEXT WEEK: We will introduce the chance of widely scattered showers on Tuesday, but the big event is shaping up for Wednesday night with a strong, negative tilt upper trough sweeping in here. That will set the stage for the potential for strong to severe thunderstorms; at this time it looks like the main window for them will be from about 4:00 p.m. until 12:00 midnight Wednesday. But, of course, that timing could change as we get closer to the event.

Thursday and Friday of next week will be dry with seasonal temperatures; no Arctic air behind the mid-week system.

VOODOO LAND: I still think “changeable” is the key word for the latter half of February. The Alabama weather roller coaster ride will continue with a slightly negative NAO and an active southern stream. Should be interesting.

TWITTER: Don’t forget, you can follow our news and weather updates from ABC 33/40 on Twitter here. And, my personal Twitter feed is here if you want to keep up with my adventures in life. Twitter is a short messaging service you can receive via the web, cell phone, or IM.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 30 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40. You can even listen here on the blog; look for the player on the top left.

I sure enjoyed seeing the entire student body of Open Door Christian Academy in Tuscaloosa this morning… and it was great to see Joe Barger and the gang at the City Cafe too. Many fond memories in that place. The Open Door students will be on the Pepsi KIDCAM today at 5:00 on ABC 33/40 News… the next Weather Xtreme video will be posted by 7:00 a.m. tomorrow!
