Thanks to Tom Denmark for these images… he writes:

“Hi James,
With the latest round of freezing temps, I decided to do a few more icicles. Some people have asked how to do this in the comment section of your blog. Here are a few tips for the ice fans out there:
-Use a sprinkler that is made of all metal, such as a Gilmour Heavy Duty Metal ($30) -photo attached
-Try to get one that has distance and fine spray knobs and radius adjustment .
-Place the sprinkler on stable ground or tape to deck railing. Turn on the day before to see coverage area. (also when the weather is milder)
-Look for surfaces that are fixed such as -tree branches, deck railings, swing sets, etc. Strategically move items like metal and wooden outdoor furniture in to the path of the spray.
-Turn the sprinkler on at about 33 degrees, because spray head will freeze up below 32 and water will not flow.
I hope these suggestions help the other people like me who want to create a mini winter wonderland in their backyard.
From the “crazy icicle man”,
Tom”
