| January 23, 2018 @ 7:40 am

WeatherBrains Episode 627 is now online (January 22, 2018). If you are crazy about weather, this is THE netcast audio program for you!

Tonight’s Guest WeatherBrain is a Space Weather Physicist. She works for the Aerospace Corporation. She is also the space weather person for TWIT. Dr. Tamitha Skov, welcome to WeatherBrains!

Dr. Skov is one of the leading space weather experts in the world. We will be talking about solar storms and their impact on the earth. We will hear about past events and our current vulnerability and mitigation efforts. She will tell us about the solar cycle and its impact on weather.

Other discussions in this weekly podcast include topics like:

  • Extremes: 85 at Punta Gorda, FL, and -21 at Shirley Basin, WY
  • Marginal risk on Mid-Atlantic States Tuesday
  • Temperatures much milder across eastern US
  • Astronomy Outlook with Tony Rice
  • and more!

Our email bag officer has snubbed the whole crew by going to Mexico.

From The Weather Center:

WeatherBrains 101: At last check, the National Snow Analysis showed 39 percent of the Lower 48 covered by snow. Snow being a white surface has a very high albedo which can play havoc with temperature forecasts. So just what is albedo and how does it factor into a weather forecast?

Listener SurveyListener Surveys: Okay, we continue to drive this topic into the ground, but we really do like to hear from you. Many thanks to everyone who has taken the time to fill out the Listener Survey. The survey takes just a minute or two to complete and provides us with an opportunity to learn where you are and hear your thoughts and comments on the show. Click here to take the survey.
