The National Weather Service in Birmingham has issued a

* Urban and Small Stream Flood Advisory for Poor Drainage Areas
for…
Calhoun County in east central Alabama…

* Until 1130 AM CST

* At 827 AM CST, emergency management reported two road closures
near the Alexandria area. Heavy rain continues to fall that will
continue to cause urban and small stream flooding.
Overflowing poor drainage areas will result in minor flooding.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include…
Anniston, Oxford, Jacksonville, Piedmont, Fort McClellan, Saks,
West End-Cobb Town, Weaver, Blue Mountain, Alexandria, Jacksonville
State University, Choccolocco, Dearmanville, Knightens Crossroads,
Sulphur Springs and Wellington.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

Turn around, don’t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small
creeks and streams, country roads, farmland, and other low lying
spots.

In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are
potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded
roads. Find an alternate route.
