Alabama 811 | Know What's Below.

Close To 80 Later Today; Cooler Tomorrow

| April 18, 2018 @ 5:25 am

WARM WEDNESDAY: With a partly sunny sky, we are forecasting a high around 80 degrees this afternoon, a little above the average high of 75 for April 18. Then, tonight, there is a small risk of a brief passing shower thanks to a cold front passing through. Moisture will be very limited, and most communities will stay dry.

TOMORROW/FRIDAY: The weather will be breezy and noticeably cooler tomorrow following the frontal passage; we won’t get out of the 60s despite sunshine in full supply. Friday morning will be cold; most places will see a low near 40, but once again the traditionally colder spots will get down into the 30s with a risk of scattered light frost. The day Friday will be pleasant with a sunny sky and a high close to 70 degrees.

THE ALABAMA WEEKEND: Saturday looks like a very nice spring day with ample sunshine and a high up in the mid 70s. But, clouds roll in Saturday night, and rain becomes widespread across the state Sunday as a surface approaches. The low will pass through South Alabama, meaning no risk of severe weather for the northern two-thirds of the state, and probably little thunder. Rain amounts of 1-2″ are likely Sunday through early next week. We won’t get out of the 60s Sunday with clouds and rain.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: Alabama’s annual spring “A Day” game is Saturday at 1:00 at Bryant Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa… it will be a perfect day for the game. With a sunny sky, temperatures will rise from the low 70s at kickoff into the mid 70s by the second half. There is no risk of rain.

NEXT WEEK: We will forecast a chance of lingering showers Monday with a cloudy sky; the weather stays cool with a high in the 60s. Then, on Tuesday, the sky will feature more clouds than sun, but only a small risk of a shower. The weather looks fairly quiet for the rest of the week, although a shower is possible Wednesday night with a front approaching from the north. The good news is that we won’t expect any severe weather issues for the northern half of Alabama for the next 10-15 days with temperatures generally below average.
