A Quiet Day in Alabama, A Quiet Day Nationally

| May 6, 2018 @ 1:13 pm

It is a quiet day across Alabama and a quiet day nationally in the weather department.

Fog burned off nicely across West Alabama during the morning hours, leaving clear skies. Recently, a few high clouds are moving into West Alabama.

With total sunshine so far, temperatures are warming nicely into the middle and upper 80s heading toward highs around 80F across much of Central Alabama.

Dewpoints are on the comfortable side, in the lower and middle 50s.

Winds are out of the north and northwest at 7-14 mph. Winds are gusting to 20 mph over East Alabama thanks to a developing low-pressure system near Charlotte.

There is a severe thunderstorm just west of Greensboro NC ahead of the low.

Nationally, flood advisories are in effect for parts of Montana, where high elevation snowmelt is swelling rivers and streams.

An excessive heat warning is in effect for the Phoenix Metro area and desert areas of Arizona and California. Highs today in the Phoenix area will be between 104-108F.

A cold front will push into Alabama early tomorrow morning, delivering a reinforcing shot of dry air. The front could trigger a few showers across northern Mississippi and northern Alabama tonight, so we can’t rule out an overnight shower, but it isn’t likely. Lows tonight will be in the 50s. Highs Monday will be in the middle and upper 70s north of I-20 and in the lower 80s further south. There will be a little cloudiness leftover from tonight’s convection to the northwest, but it will be dissipating and sunshine should rule the day.

Tuesday looks dry and Wednesday and Thursday will feature showers only over North Alabama. Temperatures will be heating up, running in the middle 80s for midweek and in the upper 80s by Friday into the weekend.
