A Few Non-Severe Thunderstorms In The Northern Parts Of The State

| May 6, 2018 @ 7:37 pm

We have a few showers and thunderstorms showing up on radar in the northern parts of North Alabama, mainly affecting parts of Limestone, Madison, Jackson, and Dekalb counties. These storms were producing stronger wind gusts up to 40 MPH earlier as they were moving through the southern parts of Tennessee, but with the sun setting, activity has weakened some and lightning production has dropped some.

These will continue to move south-southeastward a little less than 20 MPH. We do have some instability that will keep these showers and storms going for a little while longer, and with a decent amount of mixed-layer instability, a few wind gusts of 40 MPH may be possible. None of these are expected to become severe in nature, but a few of these could produce plenty of lightning for the next hour or so. All of these showers should dissipate within the next hour or two.
