National Hurricane Preparedness Week: Day 6 – Help Your Neighbor

In today’s post for the National Hurricane Preparedness Week, the National Weather Service reminds you that many Americans rely on their neighbors after a disaster, but there are also many ways you can help your neighbors before a hurricane approaches. Learn about all the different actions you and your neighbors can take to prepare and recover from the hazards associated with hurricanes. Start the conversation now with these Neighbor Helping Neighbor strategies.

• Ensure your neighbors have emergency supplies

• Ensure your neighbors can get updated forecast information

• Make sure your neighbors have a way to evacuate

• Share information with your neighbors about local shelters and evacuation routes

• After the storm, check on neighbors’ well being

• Preparation and cleanup should be a community effort
