Hot Weekend; Rain Returns Next Week

| May 11, 2018 @ 5:53 am

JUST LIKE SUMMER: We are projecting a high between 87 and 90 degrees today, followed by low 90s tomorrow and Sunday. It will be the hottest weekend so far this year with sunny days and fair nights. Showers will be just about impossible to find; today will be the 15th consecutive day without measurable rain for Birmingham (based on data at Birmingham-Shuttlesworth Airport).

And, if we do reach 90 tomorrow as forecast, it will be the first 90 degree high for Birmingham in 226 days (last time it was 90 or higher was back on September 28, 2017).

NEXT WEEK: Monday will be another dry day with a high around 90, but a broad sub tropical low in the Gulf of Mexico will move northward, and bring deeper moisture into the state by Tuesday and the rest of the week. The sky will be occasionally cloudy with occasional showers, and possibly a thunderstorm on these four days giving us a chance of some needed rain. Heat levels will come down with highs generally in the low 80s for the latter half of the week. See the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details.

ON THIS DATE IN 2008: An EF-1 tornado moved through Heflin in Cleburne County; hundreds of trees were either snapped off or uprooted along the path. Several structures sustained damage and at least 6 of the structures were destroyed. At least 35 homes suffered varying degrees of damage. No injuries were reported.

REGIONS TRADITION: The Regions Tradition will be May 16-20 at the beautiful Greystone Golf & Country Club! Make plans to attend one of the majors of the PGA Champions Tour! You can see legendary golfers Bernhard Langer, John Daly, Vijay Singh, and more tee it off with Nick Saban, Gus Malzahn, Bo Jackson, and other celebrities in the NCR Pro-AM. Juniors 18 & under are admitted free with a ticketed adult, and five-day grounds tickets are $80. Single day grounds tickets are $20. GET YOUR TICKETS HERE!!!
