A Quick Early Afternoon Update: Scattered Storms Amongst Us

| July 13, 2018 @ 1:53 pm

As of 1:40 PM, we have a good bit of scattered shower and thunderstorm activity across the area helping to bring some relief to this oppressive heat we are feeling today. The good news at this point is that none of the storms are currently strong, but you can expect heavy rainfall and plenty of dangerous cloud-to-ground lightning with any of these as they pulse up and die off. Most of the activity in the northern 2/3rds of the area is pushing of the the south-southwest, while activity in the southern third is nearly stationary.

Heat is the big issue today, with temperatures running mainly in the upper 80s to the mid-90s where it hasn’t rained. Heat index values are ranging from 95 to 108 degrees out there, and with that being said, a Heat Advisory continues in effect until 7:00 PM tonight for much of Central Alabama. Take it easy if you have to be outside and drink plenty of water.

We’ll continue to have scattered to numerous showers and storms pulse up and down throughout the remainder of the afternoon and into the early evening hours. Highs should top out in the lower to mid-90s, with a few spots possibly hitting the upper 90s. As usual, showers and storms will start to die off as we lose the heating of the day and much of the activity will be over by the late night or the beginning of the overnight hours. Lows will be in the lower to mid-70s.
