SPC Mesoscale Discussion: Severe Thunderstorm Watch 300…

| July 21, 2018 @ 6:25 pm

SUMMARY…Scattered severe thunderstorms will propagate southeast across ww300 this evening. Large hail remains the most likely severe threat.

DISCUSSION…Several thunderstorm clusters have evolved across the southern Appalachians into east-central AL region. The strongest cluster is located along the AL/GA border where initial supercell activity is congealing into a complex that is expected to propagate into southwest GA over the next few hours. MRMS data suggests large hail is common with this activity. There is some concern this convection may spread south of ww300 into the northern portions of TLH where a new ww may be warranted. Farther north, strong/severe convection is expected to spread off the higher terrain across northeastern portions of ww300, primarily across GSP CWA over the next 1-2 hours. Large hail is the main threat with these storms.
