The April 8, 1998 F5 tornado tragedy in Birmingham will never be forgotten by those who live in places like Oak Grove, Rock Creek, Sylvan Springs, McDonald Chapel, Edgewater, and Pratt City. A total of 32 people died in Jefferson County that night; two more deaths in St. Clair county happened when a smaller tornado dropped from the same parent thunderstorm. Bill Castle’s video below reminds us of how the storms of spring can wreak havoc in our state.
