Storms Return Friday

**No afternoon Weather Xtreme video today**

WARMING TREND CONTINUES: The warming trend continues tomorrow; look for a high in the mid 70s with a good supply of sunshine. Clouds will thicken tomorrow night, and we will have to deal with our next round of showers and thunderstorms on Friday.

FRIDAY’S STORMS: SPC has all of our state in a severe weather risk on Friday… extraction from the 12Z NAM shows a lifted index of -3.8, with a surface based CAPE of 999 j/kg. This is certainly supportive of strong storms, and the wind fields do look more impressive on the 12Z runs. We will take a really close look at all of this early tomorrow morning.

EASTER WEEKEND: Still looks like a very nice Easter weekend; the sky becomes mostly sunny on Saturday, and Sunday should be partly to mostly sunny. The high Saturday will be close to 70, followed by mid 70s on Sunday.

SEVERE WEATHER THREAT MONDAY: The 12Z GFS shows a very robust system moving in here on Monday; the model is a little slower now, suggesting the main threat will be from 3:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. Monday. If the model is correct, all modes of severe weather will be possible, along with heavy rain at times. We will be much more specific on this system after we get through Friday’s event, but it sure looks like Monday could wind up being a severe weather day for Alabama.

VOODOO LAND: We do note the GFS tries to being some Polar air down into Alabama at the end of the forecast period on April 23, but even that should not get us down to freezing (and, most likely, that look will change many times between now and then anyway). More than likely, we have seen our last freeze of the season. Scroll down for a long list of lows this morning posted by J.B.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 30 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40. You can even listen here on the blog; look for the player on the top left. You can scroll down for the show notes on this week’s new episode.

TWITTER: Don’t forget, you can follow our news and weather updates from ABC 33/40 on Twitter here. And, my personal Twitter feed is here if you want to keep up with my adventures in life. Twitter is a short messaging service you can receive via the web, cell phone, or IM.

Also, be sure and scroll down for the story on the 11th anniversary of the April 8, 1998 Birmingham tornado tragedy; some comments have been made by some who were impacted the most by that historic storm. Very interesting reading.

Need to keep this a bit short today; Ashley Brand will be covering for me at 5:00 and 6:00 on ABC 33/40; I will be back in the studio for the 10:00 news later tonight. Back to the regular two a day video schedule tomorrow; the next one will be posted by 7:00 a.m. tomorrow!
