Alabama 811 | Know What's Below.

Mostly Dry and Warm

| August 26, 2018 @ 6:32 am

As we saw yesterday, a few very small showers developed in Central Alabama, but very few people got wet. Never underestimate the power of afternoon heating with even just a little moisture.

The upper ridge centered over East Texas yesterday is the main player in our weather pattern for the next several days keeping the weather mostly dry and warm until mid-week. Central Alabama is starting out around 70 degrees this morning and satellite imagery is free of clouds. Central and North Alabama should remain dry today while showers will be possible across South Alabama and the Gulf Coast with highs today around the 90-degree mark.

The first part of the week ahead, Monday and Tuesday, looks mostly dry and warm as an upper ridge build across the eastern US and precipitable water values remain below 1.5 inches. Highs will stay in the lower 90s on a daily basis. Moisture levels continue to move upward from Wednesday into the weekend when chances for showers and thunderstorms goes up thanks to the increased moisture along with a sagging frontal system and afternoon heating. See the Weather Xtreme Video for maps, graphics, and more details.

Rainfall over the next five days will be sparse for Central Alabama as seen on the QPF graphic coming primarily Wednesday into early Friday. Amounts will not be as even as the graphic shows due to the nature of showers, but places that do get rain can expect between a quarter and a half an inch.

Tropics: Lane remained a tropical storm west-southwest of the Hawaiian Islands this morning. The main impact for Hawaii is rain and flooding. Hilo set new rainfall records including a new daily record of 15 inches for August 24. In the Atlantic, all remained quiet.
