How Solar-Based Energy May Soon Drive a Beneficial Global Energy Race (credit: UNFCCC)

DISCUSSION: As we head further into the first half of the 21st Century, there is little to no debate among scientists from various disciplines all over the world that mankind will continue to need to swiftly and effectively change the way in which we harness usable forms of energy here on planet Earth. This is directly connected to the fact that as humans continue to expand in coverage and space being used, there will continue to be a corresponding increase in the intensity of the global energy demand.  Thus, to continue on the energy resource path which much of the planet is currently following with respect to extracting non-renewable fossil fuel resources is unrealistic. More specifically, this continued fossil fuel reliance is unrealistic in terms of the increasingly global initiatives for maintaining sufficient global clean air standards and maintaining sufficiently stable (and critical) global land-based as well as marine ecosystems. Furthermore, many sensitive components of these land-based and marine ecosystems are critical for various industries which are relied upon on a very routine basis.  A few examples of this would be how we rely on bees to pollinate plants which provide critical vegetables, fruits, grains, and even ingredients for medicine all over the world. 

Hence, through forcing a stronger global shift towards renewable energy resources such as solar panels across more clear and sunny parts of the world, we could more than likely cause a complete global “energy race” and global energy system revitalization.  Such a global “energy race” would more than likely have a net positive impact on the planet. This would most likely be a result of the world becoming even more motivated to increase its net momentum towards becoming more resilient and financially competitive in generating more affordable and reliable naturally-renewable energy.  The best example of this being solar energy which would effectively not run out for at least a couple billion years more since the Earth’s Sun is not expected to run out of core fuel for at least 2 to 3 billion more years from now.

The essence of the plan would be to integrate many more solar panels across large sections of the Middle East and develop/negotiate a global solar energy distribution energy plan which would consequently provide global energy benefits to the entire planet.  In addition, by revolutionizing the global energy system approach (and demand issues thereof), this approach would theoretically get that much closer to eliminating the constantly evolving global energy crisis and help to mitigate future man-based impacts on critical global environmental ecosystems.
