SPC Mesoscale Discussion: Tornado Watch 369…
SUMMARY…The risk for a brief/weak tornado will continue to diminish as the center of Gordon moves farther inland and the wind fields over southwest AL become less favorable for a brief/weak spinup. The tornado watch may be cancelled early prior to the expiration time of 4am CDT.
DISCUSSION…Radar imagery/surface analysis composite shows the center of Gordon slowly moving farther north into southeastern MS. A north-south band of convection is located over Baldwin County, AL with little movement observed during the past few hours. The KMOB VAD has shown a dramatic reduction in hodograph size during the past 3 hours as the circulation center has become increasingly displaced to the north and the envelope of the stronger low-level flow has veered and moved northward. Despite an observed moist axis (76 degrees F surface dewpoints) protruding from the Gulf northward through Baldwin County, the trends in the wind field will likely lead to further reduction in the potential for consequential shear eddies to develop within the mature convective band.
