* 1.6 percent was how much of the Lower 48 was covered by snow this morning. Most of it is in the remote high country of the western USA.

* 9 percent was the total a month ago today.

* 230 inches is the snow depth today at Black Bear, Mont., elevation 8149 feet.

* 207 inches was still on Bald Mountain, Sun Valley, Idaho.

* 121 was the measurement at Paradise Ranger Station, Mount Rainier.

* 77 inches was still on the ground at Pigtail Creek, Wyo., elevation 5898 feet. (I love that name)

* 43 is the percentage of the Alabama corn crop that is in poor to very poor condition as reported today by the Alabama Department of Agriculture.

* 42 percent is in fair condition.

* 15 percent is all that is in good condition. Rain is needed badly.

* 0 percent of the corn crop is in excellent condition.

* 11 percent is how much pasture and range land is in good condition in Alabama, That is very low.

* 51 percent of the state has very short soil moisture.

* 40 percent is rated short.

* 9 percent is all that has adequate soil moisture.

* 0 percent reports a surplus soil moisture.

* 0 is how much rain has fallen in the last 7 days at Thorsby, Opelika, Eufaula, Troy, Headland and Dothan.

* 8.68 inches is the total for all of 2007 so far at Gadsden Airport.

* 17 inches is the current rain deficiency at Gadsden, only 34% of normal Since you screamed “Happy New Year.”

* 345 feet is the highest elevation in Florida at Britton Hill (they don’t even call it a mountain) just south of the Alabama border. Elevation can have a pronounced impact on the weather but not in Florida!

* 4,784 feet is the highest elevation in neighboring Georgia. That does have a great impact. It is Brasstown Bald in the extreme NE part of the state.

* 30 was the temperature on Mount Washington, New Hampshire late this afternoon. Winds were 40 mph. But, it was considered a nice day because visibility was an impressive 80 miles.

* 88 is the number of people per square mile in Alabama (population density)

* 9 is the density for North Dakota.

* 1 is the number for Alaska, ironically our largest state.

* 310 is the density for Florida.

* 1158 is how many humans that are packed into each square mile of New Jersey (average)
