A Look at Alabama’s Weather Early on this Mother’s Day

| May 12, 2019 @ 5:48 am

Showers and storms continue this morning across Central Alabama ahead of a pre-frontal trough.

They extend from Butler in Choctaw County to south of Greensboro in Hale County to between Clanton and Montgomery then to Alex City and Auburn in the east.

There is some lightning in the storms near Butler, near Demopolis and near Auburn. TThere was a brief severe thunderstorm warning for Choctaw County around 3 a.m.

Lots of heavy rain in the tropical airmass and enough instability to keep those pockets of thunderstorms going.

The activity may ramp back up through the morning hours with an uptick in instability and decent bulk wind shear. Damaging winds will be the main threat.

The SPC does have the areas that are currently being impacted by the storms in a slight risk area, including the cities of Greenville, Montgomery, Troy, Auburn and Dothan.

A cold front is over the northwestern part of the state. It will push through Alabama during the day. Areas south of a line from Livingston, to Calera to Heflin will see rain and storms through the morning hours. with the light showers diminishing for places like Tuscaloosa, Birmingham, and Gadsden.

The main mass of storms should be into Georgia before noon, with scattered showers diminishing through the rest of the day for places like Selma, Montgomery Auburn, Alex City, and Roanoke.

There will be a few peeks of sunshine later in the morning over northern sections, with partly sunny skies by afternoon in spots. Temperatures will range from the lower 70s up north, to middle and upper 70s across Central Alabama. Tonight will feature fair skies and comfortable readings in the 50s.

I will have the Weather Xtreme Video up by 7. Have a Happy Mother’s Day!
