Severe Thunderstorm Watch Has Been Canceled For All Counties In Central Alabama

| June 20, 2019 @ 7:25 pm

NWS Birmingham has canceled the Severe Thunderstorm Watch that was in effect for Barbour and Pike counties in Central Alabama. All counties in Central Alabama have been cleared of the watch as the severe weather threat has ended for today.

It looks like we may have another threat of strong to severe storms on Friday as the Storm Prediction Center has a Marginal Risk up for Central Alabama with a good chunk of North Alabama in a Slight Risk for severe storms. A shortwave over the central plains may initiate another convective system that could move in an east-southeastwardly motion that would bring it into the northern parts of Alabama. If it is able to move far enough into the area, it could fire off more convective storms that may become strong to severe with damaging winds as the main threat.

After that, Heat index values of 100-105 degrees are possible during the afternoon on Saturday and Sunday, with a few locations possibly exceeding 105 degrees. If you have plans for outdoor activities, please take action to reduce overexposure to the heat and dehydration.
