SPC Mesoscale Discussion: Severe Thunderstorm Watch 422…

| June 22, 2019 @ 12:01 am

SUMMARY…Sporadic strong wind gusts will continue in and near WW 422 the next few hours.

DISCUSSION…A long-lived bow echo continues to track east/southeast into the southern Appalachians late this evening. Measured wind gusts have generally been sub-severe the past hour or two, with Knoxville TN reporting 43 kt as the line passed. Nevertheless, reports of minor wind damage continue with speeds generally in the 35-45 kt range. Latest VWP data continues to show a rear-inflow jet, though the surface representation is not as apparent as earlier in the evening. The northern end of the bow tracking into western VA/NC is steadily outrunning any appreciable instability and should continue to weaken. Further south, strong instability remains across northern GA and some relatively greater threat may continue for several more hours across this region into far western SC along the instability gradient.
