Not much change in the overall thinking on the weather for the next week or so. And as we approach the beginning of meteorological summer – June 1 – it looks like the summer warmth is here in full force as the mercury pressures the 90-degree mark in a big way.
The northwesterly flow aloft abates somewhat today as we get into a rather flat pattern for Monday and Tuesday. A weak front approaches on Wednesday as the moisture gradually increases bringing showers into the forecast. A short wave aloft plus a weak surface low on the front should bring fairly good chances to Central Alabama on Thursday for showers and perhaps a thunderstorm.
If the GFS is right, we should see a break in the weather by late Friday and into the weekend before a northwesterly flow pattern develops once again by next Sunday. Northwesterly flow patterns can bring thunderstorm complexes from the Central Plains into the Southeast US, and the GFS suggests this could happen so we’ll have to watch for that kind of event. But that is still a ways out.
In voodoo land, nothing of any particular significance as the upper ridge dominates for much of the period keeping us in a pattern with the possibility of daily showers.
Don’t forget to listen to our weekly netcast anytime on the web or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40. You can even listen here on the blog; look for the player on the top left.
And you can follow news and weather updates from ABC 33/40 on Twitter here. And, my personal Twitter feed is here if you want to keep up with the adventures and mis-adventures in my life. Twitter is a short messaging service you can receive via the web, cell phone, or IM.
I expect James will be back with the next Xtreme video tomorrow morning. For me, I plan to enjoy this glorious weather at Cheaha State Park where it won’t be quite as hot as the flat lands. Enjoy the day and Godspeed.
