The ridge which has occupied much of the discussion for the last several days is beginning to show signs of dampening just a bit which should allow several days of more active weather than we’ve seen since last week. It will continue to remain fairly warm as highs dance around the 90 degree mark with lows primarily in the 60s.

As I mentioned yesterday a large thunderstorm cluster did throw out an outflow boundary that was moving across West Tennessee this morning. While it is decreasing in intensity, it could affect the Tennessee River Valley and sections of Middle Tennessee this morning. The complicating factor will be simply that we have a boundary that could help to focus thunderstorm development later in the heat of the afternoon.

As the ridge dampens tomorrow and Friday, we should see better chances for scattered showers north of the Interstate 20 corridor primarily. There is always the possibility of isolated showers between Montgomery and Birmingham.

But by Monday the ridge is beginning to build strong across Oklahoma, Arkansas, East Texas, and Louisiana so that by the middle of next week we should be under that ridge significantly limiting any shower potential.

And at the moment, the GFS is projecting that ridge to stay strong throughout much of the voodoo period. This pattern should result in mostly dry and hot weather though isolated storms could be possible almost any day.

Very excited to be heading to the airport around noon today to pick up my daughter who is flying in from Chicago for a visit. I’ve been holding her Christmas present hostage since last December to get her to come home for a visit – actually her work in theater in Chicago has gotten in the way. So she and I will be spending some time playing with digital photography. Enjoy the day and Godspeed.
