Heat Advisories Issued for Today

After a couple of days with really hot temperatures but slightly lower dew points yielding heat index values just below the advisory threshold, increasing moisture today will produce heat index values at or above that threshold of 105F.

Temperatures are expected to be in the mid to upper 90s with dewpoints in the low 70s.

Here are expected heat index values today at 3 p.m.

National Weather Service offices in Huntsville and Birmingham have issued heat advisories for today.

Birmingham counties include Autauga, Bibb, Chilton, Dallas, Fayette, Greene, Hale, Jefferson, Lamar, Lowndes, Marion, Montgomery, Perry, Pickens, Shelby, Tuscaloosa, and Walker.

Huntsville counties include Lauderdale, Colbert, and Franklin.

Heat index values will approach or exceed 105F at the hottest part of the day in the advisory areas. Use caution if you will be working or playing outdoors. Take frequent breaks and stay hydrated. Check on vulnerable friends, family, and neighbors.
