Midday Alabama Update: Nary a Cloud in Sight

| August 29, 2019 @ 12:45 pm

High pressure and dry air are in charge of North and North-Central Alabama’s weather on this Thursday afternoon.

Higher dewpoints are over South Central Alabama around Demopolis and Montgomery, but over the northern half of the state, Dew points are in the 50s. Quite comfortable for late August.

Highs today will top out in the 80s and lower 90s. Lows tonight will drop into the 50s and 60s.

Friday and Saturday will look a lot like today with clear to partly cloudy skies and warm temperatures. as moisture levels increase in Saturday, showers and storms will start to return to southern sections of the state. It will be Sunday before they return to North Central and North Alabama.

Labor Day looks fairly typical with humid and hot conditions. A few widely scattered showers and storms will show up during the afternoon. Highs will be near 90F.

All eyes will be on Hurricane Dorian as it approaches the Florida Peninsula on Sunday and Monday. The future track of the hurricane will depend on the strength of the upper-level ridge to the north of the storm.

A stringer ridge will result in a more southerly and westerly track that could push the storm into the Gulf of Mexico. This could cause tremendous impacts along the northern Gulf Coast. It has happened plenty of times.

So there are I’ll be lots of attention on the NHC forecasts and model output over the next five day and beyond.
