Severe Threat Continues To Shrink At 4:30 PM

No watches and warnings are in effect for anywhere in Central Alabama or anywhere else in the southeast… which is great news.

As the line of showers continues to push slowly eastward across Central Alabama, it will be moving into some unstable air mainly in the extreme southern parts. While the instability is not too terribly high, any instability with shear will help get thunderstorms going with the potential for isolated damaging winds and a brief tornado or two.

North of the instability, we look to mainly see some decent rainfall most likely without hearing that much thunder, or any at all. NWS Birmingham has pulled the Marginal Risk back to the east even further, now giving the all clear for Marion, Winston, Lamar, Fayette, and Pickens counties, along with the western portions of Walker and Tuscaloosa counties.

Timing remains the same with the main window for strong to severe thunderstorms continue to be from now through midnight tonight. West of a line from Hanceville to Brookwood to Demopolis is all clear. East of that to a line stretching from Fruithurst to Alexander City to Fort Deposit will be from now to 7:00 pm. East of that will be from 7:00 pm to 12:00 am.

Even though the severe weather threat continues to drop somewhat for much of Central Alabama, please stay weather aware and ready to act just in case your location goes under a warning… especially over the southeastern parts of the area. We’ll keep you posted.
