Rain & A Few Storms Continue At Midday

AT NOON
Rain and a few embedded thunderstorms continue to push across the west and west-central parts of Central Alabama as we have made it to the noon hour on this last day of the first work week of December. The good news is that the storms have calmed down a little since the morning hours and none are showing any signs of strong winds or any small hail. If you notice a little curl at the top of the line over the northeastern parts of Fayette County, we can see that an MCV has formed, which will actually keep rain and storms going through much of the afternoon and into the early evening hours.

Temperatures across the area at 12:00 pm are in the upper 40s to the mid-60s across the area. Birmingham was at 54 degrees with showers. The warm spot was Montgomery at 66 degrees with no rain at this point, while the cool spot was Haleyville at 48 degrees with light rain coming to an end.

THIS AFTERNOON THROUGH EARLY EVENING
Showers and thunderstorms will continue to push eastward across the remainder of Central Alabama throughout the rest of the afternoon and into the evening hours, but those will be slowly weakening and dissipating as they move east. While a few claps of thunder may be possible east of the I-65 corridor, the better chances for thunder will remain west of I-65. Highs should reach the lower 50s to the mid-60s across the area from northwest to southeast.

LATE NIGHT THROUGH PRE-DAWN
For the rest of the evening and through midnight, most of Central Alabama will remain dry, but there may be a few lingering light showers or drizzle leftover in the eastern half of the area. Those showers and drizzle may continue to hang around through the pre-dawn hours with lows dropping into the lower 40s to the upper 40s from northwest to southeast.

SATURDAY’S WEATHER
On Saturday, we’ll continue to have a very small chance of light showers or drizzle over the southern half of Central Alabama throughout the day as we will remain in a somewhat unsettled pattern with a trough extending northward into the area from the south. Skies will remain mostly cloudy with highs reaching the upper 50s to the lower 60s across the area.

The warmest official reporting station across Central Alabama on Thursday was Montgomery at 68 degrees. Haleyville had the coolest high temperature on Thursday at 62 degrees. Alexander City had the coldest low for the official reporting stations across the area on Thursday morning at 36 degrees.
