A Few Patches Of Drizzle Early Today With Clearing Skies To Follow; Very Nice Sunday Ahead

| January 4, 2020 @ 4:30 am

Rain Finally Ends On Saturday
The system that brought us the heavier rainfall amounts over the past couple of days continues to push farther to the east across the Appalachian Mountains and over to the Atlantic Coast. For us, that means we’ll have cloudy skies to start across the area with some patchy drizzle or very light showers possible mainly over the eastern half of the area. Those should be out of here as we get into the afternoon hours and skies will already be in the process of clearing out. Winds will be brisk at times averaging around 10-15 MPH out of the northwest with gusts up to 25 MPH possible. Afternoon highs will be in the upper 40s to the upper 50s from northwest to southeast. Skies will be clear for tonight and lows will be in the lower to mid-30s for most.

Nice End To The Weekend
Sunday looks to be a fine and dandy day across Central Alabama. We’ll have plenty of sunshine and we’ll have seasonal temperatures. Afternoon highs will top out in the mid to upper 50s across the area. One or two locations may reach 60 degrees in the southwestern parts of the area.

Unfortunately, We’re Back To Work On Monday As The Weather Will Be Nice
Monday will be another dry day but temperatures will be right back to above seasonal averages. Skies will mainly sunny throughout the daylight hours with highs reaching the upper 50s to the mid-60s.

Some Light Showers Possible On Tuesday
A disturbance forms during the overnight hours and a few showers will begin to move into the northwestern parts of Central Alabama during the pre-dawn hours on Tuesday. Those will eventually work across during the morning hours with much of the activity staying over the northern half of the area. By midday, the showers have pretty much dissipated and we’ll be left with clearing skies. Highs will be in the lower 50s to the lower 60s. Rainfall amounts will be less than 1/4 inch for any location across the area.

A Clear & Cool “Hump Day”
We’re back to mainly sunny skies and cooler temperatures for Wednesday as we’ll have a surface high just to our southeast over the southwestern parts of Georgia. Highs will be in the lower to mid-50s.

Dry On Thursday, But The Next System Is On Its Way
The surface high moves just a tad to the south on Thursday, but we’ll stay dry for the entire day at this point. Skies will be mostly clear to start with clouds increasing throughout the day. Afternoon highs will be in the mid-50s to the lower 60s.

Another System Moves In Friday; Heavy Rain At Times & A Few Storms Possible
A low develops out to our northwest and will be pushing moisture into Central Alabama during the day on Friday. We’ll have a good chance of showers and maybe a few thunderstorms during the afternoon hours, but heavier storms move in during the late-night hours. Afternoon highs will be in the 60s across the area. We may have to watch for the potential for stronger storms during the afternoon and evening as the GFS is painting some instability forming ahead of the storms. We’ll keep you updated and have better details as we get closer. Rainfall amounts according to the GFS may top out in the 1-2 inch range.
