ANOTHER COOL NIGHT: Be sure and scroll down for a long list of the amazing lows across our state this morning. We figure tomorrow morning will be almost as cool; the average low will be close to 60, but most of the cooler spots will be well down in the 50s again. Birmingham’s record low for tomorrow morning (July 21) is 61 set in 1971; a very good chance that one will fall. Simply doesn’t bet much better than this in mid-summer in Alabama.

REST OF THE WEEK: A surface low will form tomorrow afternoon near Harrison, Arkansas, but it looks like the bulk of the showers and storms associated with that system will remain west of the state during the day. Temperatures tomorrow will remain below average, with a high in the mid to upper 80s.

Looks like a good chance of showers and storms statewide Wednesday with a cold front passing through. The GFS is now suggesting that this front will make into deep South Alabama by Wednesday night, and yet another surge of dry air will flow in here on Thursday. So, we will trend toward a drier forecast on Thursday and Friday for the northern two-thirds of the state.

THE WEEKEND: Another front approaches on Saturday, so a chance of showers and storms will have to go back into the forecast as we begin this weekend. And, it looks like this one will stall out over North Alabama, leaving the weather a bit unsettled Sunday and Monday with a chance of showers and thunderstorms both days. Highs over the weekend should remain mostly in the mid 80s.

TROPICS: The tropical wave now moving through the Windward Islands will have a very tough time navigating the Caribbean due to hostile winds aloft; see the Weather Xtreme video for the graphics. It most likely will fizzle out before getting out of there. The rest of the Atlantic basin remains quiet.

VOODOO LAND: The 12Z GFS tries to build an upper trough over the western U.S. in early August, with a ridge over the east. This could suggest hotter and drier weather for us if that is correct, but there has been very little model consistency in the long range, and that could be gone on the next run. Again, see the Weather Xtreme video for details.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 30 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes.
