7 a.m. Update: Strong Storms Continue Across Central Alabama: Dangerous Bearing Down on Alex City

Storms continue across much of Central Alabama this morning from Lamar and Pickens County through much of Tuscaloosa, western Jefferson, Bibb, Shelby, Chilton, Coosa, and into Clay Counties.

They are moving rapidly to the east.

The storm in Coosa County has a history of producing significant wind damage in Chilton County, including numerous trees on homes in Thorbys and Gap of Mountain. It is also showing hail to 3 inches in diameter, which is the size of baseballs. Winds have gusted to 56 mph so far at ALX. Golf ball sized hail is being reported.

There is a severe thunderstorm warning for Coosa and Tallapoosa Counties until 7:30 a.m.

These storms will continue moving east through the morning hours, pushing into Georgia by 11 am.

Heavy rain, lightning, gusty winds, and hail will accompany them, with large hail and damaging winds possible with the stronger storms.
