Sunny & Warm Saturday

| May 2, 2020 @ 12:34 pm

SUN-FILLED SATURDAY: It was a cool start to the day with upper 40s and lower 50s, but as we roll into the afternoon hours, with sunshine in full supply, we are seeing our temperatures soar into the 80s across Alabama.

Hard to find fault with the weather today and nothing is going to change the rest of today. Tonight, the sky remains clear, but it will not be as cool as mid and upper 50s should be common tomorrow morning.

ON THE MAPS: At the surface, an area of high pressure was centered at the apex of Alabama, Georgia, and Florida, while the upper-level ridge is centered over East Texas. These two features are working together to keep rain and storms away from Alabama and much of the Deep South, and also keeping our sky mainly clear, while warming us up today and through the next several days.

SUNNY, WARMER SUNDAY: Expect a near repeat in the weather for tomorrow. The sky will be full of sunshine, with perhaps a few upper-level cirrus, but these will not be impacting our temperatures as they should warm into the mid and upper 80s across Alabama, and yes, some spots down south will be flirting with 90 degrees.

BEACH FORECAST CENTER: Get the latest weather and rip current forecasts for the beaches from Fort Morgan to Panama City on our Beach Forecast Center page. There, you can select the forecast of the region that you are interested in visiting.

WORLD TEMPERATURE EXTREMES: Over the last 24 hours, the highest observation outside the U.S. was 115.7F at Matam, Senegal. The lowest observation was -76.9F at Dome A, Antarctica.

CONTIGUOUS TEMPERATURE EXTREMES: Over the last 24 hours, the highest observation was 111F at Rio Grande Village, TX. The lowest observation was 20F at Mount Washington, NH.
