Flood Advisory for Jefferson & Shelby Co. Until 6:00 pm

The National Weather Service in Birmingham has issued a

* Urban and Small Stream Flood Advisory for…
Southeastern Jefferson County in central Alabama…
Northwestern Shelby County in central Alabama…

* Until 600 PM CDT.

* At 259 PM CDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to
thunderstorms. This will cause urban and small stream flooding.

Some locations that will experience flooding include…
Birmingham, Hoover, Vestavia Hills, Homewood, Pelham, Mountain
Brook, Trussville, Helena, Irondale, Leeds, Fairfield, Fultondale,
Center Point, Tarrant, Midfield, Indian Springs Village, Lipscomb,
Five Points South, Samford University and Cahaba Heights.

Additional rainfall of 1 to 2 inches is expected over the area. This
additional rain will result in minor flooding.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

Turn around, don’t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small
creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses
as well as other drainage areas and low lying spots.
