Midday Nowcast: Tons of Sunshine…Finally
It was a very cold start to the day with most locations well down in the 20s this morning. But, today is the best day of weather this week with a mostly sunny sky, we are seeing temperatures surge into upper 40s late this morning and these will be heading into the mid and upper 50s this afternoon, with even some 60s across South Alabama.
COLD FRONT TONIGHT: Clouds return quickly tonight as a cold front will move through the state overnight. Some scattered showers are possible, but with limited moisture, amounts will be light and spotty with most locations remaining dry. Lows tonight should hold in the 40s. For tomorrow, the sky should feature a mix of sun and clouds and it will be a cooler day with highs in the 40s. Through the day the winds will increase as well and it should be a brisk day with westerly winds of 10-20 mph, making it feel colder.
THE ALABAMA WEEKEND: Saturday will start off below freezing with widespread 20s expected, it will be a sunny day with chilly temps as highs look to hold in the mid 40s. Then on Sunday, clouds will increase ahead of another approaching cold front, but the day should be dry with a high around 50°.

WORLD TEMPERATURE EXTREMES: Over the last 24 hours, the highest observation outside the U.S. was 115.0F at Roebourne Airport, Australia. The lowest observation was -69.2F at Verhojansk, Russia.
CONTIGUOUS TEMPERATURE EXTREMES: Over the last 24 hours, the highest observation was 81F at numerous locations across California. The lowest observation was -6F at Bechler, WY.
WEATHER ON THIS DATE IN 1988: A powerful Pacific storm produced rain and high winds in the western U.S. In Nevada, a wind gust to 90 mph at Reno was an all-time record for that location, and wind gusts reached 106 mph southwest of Reno. A wind gust to 94 mph was recorded at nearby Windy Hill. Rainfall totals in Oregon ranged up to six inches at Wilson River.
