A lot of disappointed and unprepared people out there across Central Alabama due to today’s busted weather forecast.

Radar show that there is still a good bit of rain falling from Gadsden through northern Jefferson County into northern Tuscaloosa County. It is slowly beginning to diminish.

But looking south, storms were firing from Prattville to Jackson to Ozark. With everything moving northward, those storms could get into North Central Alabama by late afternoon or early evening.

In addition, new storms are forming over Coosa County north of Rockford.

Sorry about not picking up on this in last night’s forecasts. There were no distinct weather features on the maps last night and conflicting signals from the major models.

We knew things were going to moisten up over the weekend, and did call for increasing rain chances. The early arrival did catch most of us by surprise.

Everything came together for a persistent band of showers and storms from Bibb and Tuscaloosa Counties through the Birmingham Metro, northern Jefferson, Blount and into Cullman and Etowah Counties.

Radar estimates indicate over three increase in the Vance and Abernant areas of northeastern Tuscaloosa County and in northern Jefferson County. 1.75 according to John Talbot in Hueytown, 1.63 in Pleasant Grove according to Richard Viola, Beth Brooks in Bluff Park 1.01. Vic Bell up in Scrougeout .25 so far.
