Strong to Severe Storms Already on the Board This Morning: Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Parts of Marengo

| April 9, 2021 @ 7:22 am

A cluster of strong storms is lifting northeastward this morning over Southwest Alabama. Severe thunderstorm warnings are now in effect for parts of Marengo, Clarke, Choctaw, and Washington Counties. One severe storm is west of Thomasville, and another west of Grove Hill this morning.

The storms are moving northeast at 40 mph.

Both show indications of large hail. Damaging winds are also possible.

Hail will likely be a big part of the story today. Hail to ping pong ball size was reported in the Fountain area of Bay County, Florida around 6:45 a.m. CDT this morning. Storms in Gulf County produced quarter-sized hail as well.

Elsewhere, storms are lifting northward across South Central Alabama along a warm front. Storms extend from Montgomery County across parts of Bullock and Barbour Counties. They will lift into Elmore, Macon, and Russell Counties.
