Midday Nowcast: More Sun Than Clouds

| May 17, 2021 @ 10:53 am

Not at all a bad start to the work week with comfortable and fair conditions with highs this afternoon in the lower 80s. We are seeing a mix of sun and clouds, and though we are rain-free, we can’t rule out a few isolated showers on the radar this afternoon or tonight, mainly across West Alabama. Not much change in the weather for tomorrow, it will be another warm day with a mix of sun and clouds, and once again we will mention a few isolated showers during the afternoon and evening hours. Highs again will be mainly in the lower 80s.

HEAT LEVELS ON THE RISE: For the second half of the week and continuing into the weekend, an upper ridge will strengthen across the Deep South, setting the stage for dry weather with rising temperatures. Look for mostly sunny days, fair nights, and highs in the mid to upper 80s, with a few low 90s down to the south.

This ridge and accompanying surface high will steer the rain and storms away from Alabama, deflecting and keeping the activity west and north of the state, and we note severe thunderstorms are likely across Texas and Oklahoma later today and tonight.
