Rain and Storms Calming Down, Serious Flooding Ongoing; Pay Attention to Flash Flood Warnings Overnight

| June 19, 2021 @ 11:24 pm

Cloud tops are beginning to finally warm across Central Alabama tonight, indicating that the intense rainfall we experienced this evening is diminishing a bit.

But moderate to heavy rain continues at this hour across a wide area from Tuscaloosa to Kasper to Jacksonville, Albertville, Scottsboro, and Fort Payne.

There are numerous reports of serious flooding across Jefferson, Tuscaloosa, Greene, DeKalb, and Marshall Counties. Flash flood warnings continue for several counties. The Flash Flood Warning for Tuscaloosa County has been extended until 1 a.m.

Please remain at home tonight. If you must travel, remember our adage, Turn Around, Don’t Drown.

The center of Tropical Depression Claudette will move across Central ALabama tonight and into western Georgia by morning.

Things should continue to improve overnight, with only a few showers over eastern Alabama by morning.

Skies will clear slowly on Sunday, but a series of fronts will bring additional shower and thunderstorm chances to our area.
