Showers Persist Over Northwest Alabama

| September 23, 2009 @ 8:28 am | Reply

A check of the radar this morning shows a persistent band of showers over Northwest Alabama; some of the heaviest rain was falling over Winston, Franklin, and Lawrence counties. The band of showers extended from near Columbus, Mississippi to Decatur, with little eastward progression.

This seems to be the place for the best opportunity of showers and storms during the next few days, but we can’t rule out a few scattered afternoon showers or storms over the eastern half of the state as well.

RIVER FLOODING: Just a reminder the Black Warrior and Tombigbee Rivers in West Alabama will be cresting around 10 feet above flood stage during the next 36 to 48 hours; lots of pastures are flooded near these rivers in Hale, Greene, Sumter, and Marengo Counties. Some cabins and trailers and impacted as well, and few secondary roads will be flooded near the rivers. You can monitor the level of the Tombigee at Demopolis via our SKYCAM there at the Demopolis Civic Center.
