Flooding Concerns over Northeastern Birmingham

| August 10, 2021 @ 3:46 pm

A thunderstorm developed right over the Birmingham Airport around 2:45 this afternoon. It quickly mushroomed into a powerful storm with a good bit of lightning and very heavy rain.

The graphic shows reflectivity on the left and one hour rainfall amounts on the right.

It is causing flooding concerns now, as it has dumped nearly two inches of rain in that area. 1.80 inches of rain has fallen at the Airport, with 1.76 inches in just 40 minutes. .41 inches fell in just 10 minutes.

The storm is beginning to weaken now and is pushing north across the Tarrant and Ketona areas. It will eventually rain itself out, but flooding will remain an issue in the spots that normally flood that have received heavy rainfall.
