Showers Possible Sunday Afternoon
**No afternoon Weather Xtreme video today**
RIGHT NOW: The sky is clearing across Alabama as drier air returns to Alabama following a very minor rain event this morning. Many communities didn’t even get enough rain to measure; the heaviest amounts were over Northwest Alabama where totals were around 1/4 inch. Nothing like the downpours we have seen in recent weeks.
TONIGHT AND TOMORROW: Dry air is the story; clear and cool tonight with a low in the upper 40s by daybreak tomorrow. A very nice Saturday is ahead with lots of sun and a high in the mid to upper 70s tomorrow afternoon.
FOOTBALL WEATHER: We have made-to-order football weather for high school games tonight in Alabama. Most areas should be mostly clear and dry with temperatures in the 60s at kick off and dropping into the 50s in the second half. On Saturday, Alabama is in Lexington for an 11:21 a.m. kick off with the Kentucky Wildcats. No rain is expected and it should be around 56 degrees at kick off peaking at 62 during the game. It will be breezy at times with winds up to 20 mph. Auburn is also on the road in Knoxville playing Tennessee at 6:45 Saturday evening. Dry weather is expected with about 65 degrees at kick off and 48 to 50 at the final whistle.
SUNDAY AND MONDAY: Models are continuing the trend toward a moist airmass returning to Alabama Sunday, along with some risk of showers by afternoon. In fact, both the GFS and the NAM look downright wet by Sunday night and Monday. The NAM is printing a whopping 2.46 inches of rain Sunday and Monday; seems a little aggressive, but I guess not out of the question with a northward moving warm front.
Showers and storms will remain a good possibility Tuesday and Wednesday before drier air slips into the state by Thursday and Friday.
TROPICS: You know the story; things are very quiet and tropical storm formation is not expected through the weekend.
