Midday Nowcast: Marvelous Monday

| October 18, 2021 @ 10:48 am

It was another chilly start to the day, but as we roll through the day, temperatures are warming up due to the sky being mainly sunny, and will be seeing low 70s for most locations this afternoon. Another clear and chilly night ahead for us all with low and mid 40s areawide.

REST OF THIS WEEK: More great weather tomorrow with plenty of sun and highs in the mid 70s. By midweek, we will see a few more clouds with a feature working along the Gulf Coast. Most of North/Central Alabama will be dry, but some showers are possible across the southwestern part of the state through the day. Late Wednesday night and into Thursday, a cold front will approach the area and we will need to mention a chance of showers statewide, but with limited moisture rain amounts should be generally under a quarter of an inch.

FRIDAY AND THE WEEKEND: The front looks to push well to the south, and will bring a new surge of dry air into the Deep South. For now Friday and the weekend, expect sunny and dry conditions with highs in the 70s and lows in the 50s. We could amend this forecast in the coming days as some model data suggest the front stalling out across the state, so stay tuned.

NEXT WEEK: The weather looks relatively quiet for now; we might have a day or two with a chance of showers, but no sign of any major rain event. Highs will remain generally in the 70s.

QUIET IN THE TROPICS: For the North Atlantic…Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico: Tropical cyclone formation is not expected during the next 5 days.

BEACH FORECAST CENTER: Get the latest weather and rip current forecasts for the beaches from Fort Morgan to Panama City on our Beach Forecast Center page. There, you can select the forecast of the region that you are interested in visiting.

WORLD TEMPERATURE EXTREMES: Over the last 24 hours, the highest observation outside the U.S. was 111.2F at Arafat, Saudi Arabia. The lowest observation was -89.3F at Vostok, Antarctica.

CONTIGUOUS TEMPERATURE EXTREMES: Over the last 24 hours, the highest observation was 94F at Coolidge, AZ. The lowest observation was 16F at Yosemite Village, CA.

WEATHER ON THIS DATE IN 1910: Northeasterly winds as high as 70 mph (from a hurricane moving northward up the Florida peninsula) carried water out of Tampa Bay and the Hillsboro River. The water level lowered to nine feet below mean low water. Forty ships were grounded.
