Midday Nowcast: Severe Clear with Pleasant Temperatures

| November 8, 2021 @ 11:00 am

Another cold morning to start our week, but as we roll into the afternoon, we are seeing temperatures warm up nicely under a sky full of sunshine; most places should reach the low 70s by the end of the day. The great weather will continue tomorrow and Wednesday with dry, pleasant conditions, and we will see a few more clouds these days, but temperatures will remain in the 70-75 degree range.

RAIN RETURNS: A cold front will bring clouds back to Alabama Thursday. Periods of rain are likely Thursday afternoon and Thursday night; a few thunderstorms are possible as well, but severe storms are not expected with the main dynamic support passing well to the north and little to no instability in place. The main window for rain will come from noon to midnight Thursday, and amounts of around 1/2 inch are expected. Thursday’s high will be in the low 70s for most places.

FRIDAY AND THE WEEKEND: The front will be pushing out of the state early Friday morning and the sky becomes mostly sunny Friday with a brisk north wind. It will be cooler as highs will be in the 60-65 degree range. The weekend will be dry and colder; we expect a sunny sky Saturday and Sunday with highs in the 50s. Temperatures will be close to freezing by early Sunday morning.

IN THE TROPICS: A non-tropical low pressure system with storm-force winds is located a couple of hundred miles east-southeast of Cape Hatteras, North Carolina. This system is forecast to move east-northeastward during the next several days, and it could gradually lose its frontal characteristics by mid-week over the subtropical Atlantic Ocean. By early this weekend, the low could acquire some subtropical characteristics while it moves eastward or east-northeastward over the open waters of the central Atlantic Ocean. Formation chance through 5 days…low…20 percent.
