Midday Nowcast: Another Sunny, Beautiful December Day

Spring-like warmth continues today and tomorrow as generally sunny and rain-free conditions allow for temperatures to warm into the low and mid 70s across Alabama both days. These are 10-15 degrees above average for early December in Alabama.

WEEKEND WEATHER: The nice weather continues into the weekend as the pattern doesn’t change much. Saturday will remain sunny and dry with highs in the low 70s. On Sunday, highs will again be in the low 70s, but clouds will increase through the day as a cold front approaches the state Sunday night.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: Saturday’s SEC Championship game between Alabama and Georgia will be played in Mercedes Stadium in Atlanta (3p CT kickoff). The day in Atlanta will be dry and mild…with a partly sunny sky temperatures will reach the low 70s by mid-afternoon.

RAIN RETURNS: As the cold front moves into the state, expect rain to return Sunday night and into Monday. Rain amounts of around 1/2 inch are likely, and while some thunder is possible, we still do not expect any severe weather. Rain will end from northwest to southeast across the state Monday afternoon. Monday will be cooler with highs in the 55-60 degree range.

CONTIGUOUS TEMPERATURE EXTREMES: Over the last 24 hours, the highest observation was 92F at Chino and Ojai, CA. The lowest observation was 7F at Kokadjo, ME.

WEATHER ON THIS DATE IN 1925: A late season hurricane caused extensive damage across the Florida peninsula, then moved off the Georgia coast crossing Cape Hatteras as a tropical storm. The storm produced whole gales along the Middle Atlantic and Southern New England coast. Winds gusted to 60 mph at Block Island RI, and reached 64 mph at Atlantic City NJ.
