Flood Advisory for Bibb, Jefferson, Shelby Co. Until 9:30 am
…FLOOD ADVISORY IN EFFECT UNTIL 930 AM CST THIS MORNING…
* WHAT…Urban and small stream flooding caused by excessive
rainfall is expected.
* WHERE…A portion of central Alabama, including the following
counties, Bibb, Jefferson and Shelby.
* WHEN…Until 930 AM CST.
* IMPACTS…Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas.
Overflowing poor drainage areas.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS…
– At 623 AM CST, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges
indicated heavy rain. This will cause urban and small stream
flooding. Between 1 and 2 inches of rain have fallen.
– Additional rainfall amounts up to 1 inch are expected over
the area. This additional rain will result in minor flooding.
– Some locations that will experience flooding include…
Birmingham, Hoover, Vestavia Hills, Alabaster, Bessemer,
Homewood, Pelham, Mountain Brook, Helena, Irondale, Chelsea,
Brent, Centreville, Indian Springs Village, West Blocton,
Maylene, Hoover Metropolitan Stadium, Ross Bridge, Riverchase
and Oak Mountain Amphitheater.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…
Turn around, don’t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.
Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.
Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads.
In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are
potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded
roads. Find an alternate route.
