Record High Already Set at Birmingham; Concern About Severe Weather Threat Wednesday Increasing

| December 26, 2021 @ 1:04 pm

Skies are variably sunny across Alabama on this last Sunday of 2021.

There is quite a range in temperatures across the state with the variability in the sunshine.

That 76F reading at the Shuttlesworth International Airport means that BHM has broken its daily record high temperature for December 26th. Get ready for more record highs over the next two days as well.

Fayetteville AR, Charlotte NC, and Abilene TX have already broken their high-temperature records as well.

Dewpoints in the lower 60s are making it feel a little humid across North and Central Alabama.

Looking at the forecast we may have to introduce a small chance of a shower tomorrow as moisture levels continue to rise. SHower chances on Tuesday look a little higher as well, but mainly after dark.

I am going to up the temperatures on Friday, back to the 70s, instead of the 60s.

Upgraded the severe weather risk on Wednesday to slight. SPC now has us in a 15% risk area, which will translate to slight if nothing changes. With the deep moisture in place, as well as above-normal warmth, the fuel will be there. An approaching front will provide the spark, and it looks like severe weather will be likely across Mississippi and Alabama Wednesday.

The Saturday/Sunday time frame will have to be watched as well, with severe weather again a possibility as another stronger cold front approaches a warm and moist airmass across Alabama. Stay tuned.
