Tornado Watch Issued For Much of North Alabama Until 7 pm

The SPC along with NWS Huntsville has issued a Tornado Watch until 7 pm this evening for the following counties in North Alabama: Colbert, Franklin, Lauderdale, Lawrence, Limestone and Morgan counties. Here is the text from the SPC:

The NWS Storm Prediction Center has issued a

* Tornado Watch for portions of
— Northern Alabama
— Eastern Kentucky
— Middle to eastern Tennessee
— Far southwest Virginia

* Effective this Saturday afternoon and evening from 155 PM until 800 PM EST.

* Primary threats include…
— A few tornadoes likely, with a couple intense tornadoes possible
— Scattered damaging winds likely, with isolated significant gusts to 80 mph possible

SUMMARY… A squall line with discrete cells ahead of it will spread east-northeast into early evening, with a threat for tornadoes and damaging winds.

The tornado watch area is approximately along and 55 statute miles east and west of a line from 15 miles east northeast of Jackson, KY to 30 miles southwest of Huntsville, AL. For a complete depiction of the watch, see the associated watch outline update (WOUS64 KWNS WOU4).

REMEMBER… A Tornado Watch means conditions are favorable for tornadoes and severe thunderstorms in and close to the watch area. Persons in these areas should be on the lookout for threatening weather conditions and listen for later statements and possible warnings.
