A Brief Check on Our Weather Just Before 5:30 pm

| January 9, 2022 @ 5:24 pm

RADAR CHECK AT 5:17 PM: Much of the activity is located over the extreme southern and southeastern parts of the area and down into South Alabama. For our parts of the state, the storms are staying well-behaved, but not to the south of us.

A confirmed tornado was on the ground just northeast of Evergreen and was moving to the east at 25 mph. The warning is in effect for portions of Butler, Conecuh, and Covington counties until 5:45 pm. If you know people in the path of the tornado, please inform them to take cover immediately!

A Tornado Watch continues until 6 pm for Barbour, Bullock, Lowndes, Macon, Montgomery, Pike, and Russell counties. The threat will continue until around 9 pm tonight, but the threat will be more on an isolated scale instead of a widespread threat. Therefore, a new Tornado Watch is unlikely to be issued when the current watch expires.
