Midday Nowcast: Splendid Spring-Like Weather through the Weekend

| March 4, 2022 @ 11:06 am

OH SO NICE!!!: Amazing weather highlights our forecast for Alabama through the weekend. It is another sunny and beautiful day with temperatures this afternoon approaching the 80° mark across much of Central Alabama. Tomorrow and Sunday, temperatures will range from the upper 70s to mid 80s across all of Alabama. Tomorrow will be sunny, but Sunday will feature more clouds, as moisture levels rise, but the weekend will be dry.

RAIN/STORMS RETURN MONDAY: A cold front will bring the chance for thunderstorms back to the Alabama Monday. There will be surface based instability available, and some strong storms are expected, but the main dynamics pulling away to the northeast. However, enough ingredients will be in place that the SPC has introduced a risk of severe thunderstorms for about the northern 2/3 of Alabama… for areas north of a line from Sweetwater to Clanton to Ranburne, mainly for Monday afternoon and evening.

Stronger storms will be capable of producing hail, strong straight line winds, and a few tornadoes. We are still a few days out, so our forecast will be more specific as we roll through the weekend, but until then, enjoy this incredible weekend weather.

COOLER NEXT WEEK: The front will push down into South Alabama Tuesday, meaning much of Alabama will be in a cooler air mass for Tuesday and Wednesday with afternoon highs in the 50s. Still some inconsistencies with the forecast next week. Some data suggest a low will develop in the Gulf, spreading rain back across Alabama Wednesday and Thursday, while other data suggest it will remain dry..stay tuned.

END OF WEEK FRONT: By the time we get to Friday, another front will move into Alabama, with some rain and storms, way too early to know if severe storms will be an issue. Behind that front, winter will return to Alabama as it appears lows will fall back into the 20s next weekend over the northern half of the state…Growers beware, don’t be catching the spring fever and planting those flowers just yet, despite the warm and gorgeous weather this weekend.
