Unsettled Weather Starting Today Through the Work Week Ahead

| April 30, 2022 @ 6:28 am

TODAY: A surface low will be moving across the upper Midwest today and will be dragging a cold front that will be approaching the area. We’ll have moisture advecting northward from the Gulf of Mexico, and with the heating of the day, we will see some scattered showers and thunderstorms by the afternoon hours. Skies will be partly to mostly sunny, with highs in the lower to mid 80s.

SUNDAY: That front will start to move into the area on Sunday morning, but it will be weakening as it moves into the area. It will eventually wash out over the southern half of the area. We can expect scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms, but it should not be an all day washout. Highs will be in the lower to mid 80s.

NEXT WEEK: We’ll keep a chance of scattered afternoon showers and thunderstorms in the forecast for Monday as the front looks to move back northward as a warm front. Skies will be mostly sunny, with highs in the mid to upper 80s for most across the area.

While the 06z run of the GFS is not showing shower activity over the area on Tuesday afternoon, we still can’t rule out a few scattered showers and storms during the afternoon to early evening as we’ll continue to have a good bit of humidity in place. Highs will be in the mid to upper 80s for most.

Another cold front will be trying to push its way into the northern parts of the area on Wednesday that will bring an increased chance of showers and thunderstorms mainly to the northern half of the area. Highs will be in the 80s throughout the area.

And another frontal system will be pushing in our direction on Thursday that will keep the flow of moisture from the Gulf over the area and will keep a chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms in the forecast. Highs will be in the mid 80s to the lower 90s.

That system will move through Central Alabama throughout the day on Friday that will bring showers and thunderstorms for everyone in the area. There will be some instability in place, so we can’t rule out a few strong storms, but it is too early to know if severe weather will be possible. Highs will be in the 80s.
